"No man in our time aroused fear and hatred in the white man as did Malcolm, because in him the white man sensed an implacable foe who could not be had for any price--a man unreservedly committed to the cause of liberating the black man."-M.S. Handler (pg 10-11)
I did not want to move on from the introduction, Life Beyond the Legend, before commenting on this quote. If you have studied Malcolm at all you know he was devoted to Nation Of Islam and the Black race. I purposely put the NOI first because they birthed his love for the people. Detroit Red terrorized the community. Satan was introduced to Allah. El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz fell in love with the community.
Malcolm was truly devoted to the NOI because he believed what they instilled in him. He was blindly devoted to Elijah Muhammad because through him he discovered freedom. His only agenda was that he wanted the people to be just as liberated as he was. He wanted to repay in service what he took in robbery. Raw unconditional love for the people is what he had.
Buy him, no.
You can't buy love.
He felt he owed us too much.
There were others who could be bought though.
So they preyed on his love and devotion.
They killed him from within.
But the Reinvention had already began....

Yay! The progress reviews have started already. Sounds like a powerful introduction.
